Hanover County, Virginia is located about 12 miles north of Richmond, Virginia. The county is about 474 square miles and is home to just over 100,000 residents. Full of history, Hanover County is known for being the birthplace of Patrick Henry and Henry Clay, the site of The Seven Days Battles and The Battle of Cold Harbor during the Civil War, and the home of the United States first dinner theater at The Hanover Tavern. The over 225 year old tavern located across the street from the Hanover Courthouse, which is a registered national landmark in itself.
In 2007, America's Promise named Hanover County as one of the top 100 communities for youth. 10 parks, 4 boat ramps make up the Parks & Recreation department within the County.
